Local food traditions in Lærdal and Sogn. With a focus on both short-distance and organic food, Lærdal has a lot to offer. Here, most things can be bought from local garden sales, general stores or in the store's own department. From Lærdal, the selection of vegetables, fruit and berries is large and varied. Among other things, we can mention the raspberry "Lærdal's best", which won the final in The Norwegian Meal 2018.
The Lærdal potatoes also make good use of the rich soil we have here, and are just as popular with the local population, as outsiders and passers-by. The latest addition among the rich fruit strains is the apricot. It turns out that it can be grown here, and is hopefully here to stay.
And as lefsekling baking is an art in itself, there are still offers for courses in it.
Another porridge that originates from Lærdal is Frigardsporridge. Cooked on spelled and oat milk and topped with raspberry ice cream. Other products such as aged cheese, flat bread, fruit sides, cured meats, parish lamb, as well as salmon in various varieties, are sold in seperate departments at the store, both at Lærdalsøyri and at Borgund.
Lærdal and Sogn, like so many other places, have long traditions in food culture. And from our local area we can pick up short-distance, locally produced food. Such as: brown and white goat's cheese from Underdal. From our neighboring municipalities Årdal and Flåm, we can be tempted by beer from Tya and Ægir. Balholm from Balestrand, produces organic juice, cider and fruit wine. In 2018, they received the Food Award for Producer of the Year.
