Aurlandsfjellet på sykkelLærdal offers great opportunities for cycling, whether you go by racer bikes or mountain bikes - easy trips along the fjord or professional training. The valley is well suited for cycling, for all purposes and for all ages.

The entire valley is practically car-free, due to side streets (streets running parallel to the E-16), as well as a nice and almost traffic-free road along the fjord to the old ferry quay, Revsnes.

If you haven't brought your own, we have all kinds of bikes for rental. We have children's bikes, trekking, cross-country bikes, racing (aluminum and carbon) and triathlon bikes. You can find the price list for rental here. For further details, please visit our website Lærdal Sport og Rekreasjon.


In addition to all kinds of bikes, we have a large selection of go-carts, which are also suitable for adults. Norway 2With these go-carts you can organize competitions for your company, road safety education for children, or simply just drive around on the campsite.






P6110939Lærdal is known for the many bicycle activities arranged by Lærdal Bicycle Club, and has hosted the National Championship in road racing, the Junior Championship, and last but not least, the Norwegian Cycling Festival (Norsk Sykkelfestival) - an international event for elite racers, over 5 days. The club has also arranged the race Oslo-Lærdal several times, during the 80s and 90s, and the record attempting distance, Lærdal-Oslo. Many known professional riders like George Hincapie, Thor Hushovd, Kurt Asle Arvesen, Glenn Magnusson, Jan Boven etc. has participated and won these stages. Jorrit Bergsma, currently one of the best Dutch speed skaters, participated and won stages in 2007.

In our mountainous areas, Fillefjell, the Hemsedal
Mountain and the Aurland mountain, there is several great mountain roads (gravel and stone), which are highly suitable for mountain biking or a cross/hybrid bike.


By cycling from the golf course at Rikheim/Mo and further up Råsdalen, and all the way up to the mountain, you will get one of the most beautiful cycling trips the area has to offer. The trip is suitable for mountain bikes or a solid cross/hybrid bike. This area provides a scenery that you will hardly find anywhere else in the country.

You can find several examples of cycling trips starting in Lærdal below.
We can also offer service cars with mechanics and parts/equipment for small/large groups / business trips.


Starting in Lærdal, you can explore the Sognefjord region by bike. Here are some examples on routes on asphalt:

  • Lærdal - Aurland over "the Snow Road" / Aurland Mountain. A challenging route with an altitude difference of 1400 metres. Elevation for ca. 25 km, ending with a downhill with panorama-view. Length, 50 km. You can go back and forth by bike, or take the bus/boat.

  • Lærdal- Fillefjell - Tyin - Årdal - Årdalstangen - Fodnes. Difference in altitude of 1100 metres, "plateau" inclines from Lærdal to the start of Fillefjell (about 55 km), flat and slightly downhill from the top of Fillefjell to Tyinkrysset before climbing up again to Tyin. The mountain Tyin-Årdal is flat. Steep descent from Holsbru, about 10 km to Øvre Årdal. Mostly flat from Årdal to Fodnes. You can go by bus back to Lærdal from here. You can also cycle the opposite way.

  • Fodnes - Øvre Årdal – Turtagrø – Kaupanger.

  • Kaupanger – Solvorn – Urnes – Skjolden – Gaupne – Kaupanger.

  • Lærdal – Hemsedal – Vaset – Valdres – Fillefjell – Lærdal

  • Lærdal/Aurland – Aurlandsdalen – Hol – Gol – Lærdal
